Christmas in Colmar, France |
I am fortunate to have traveled to many cities in the world. From Manila to Chicago, from Paris to Dubai, from Singapore to Cairo. Places that are my anchor, for the stories I tell. Stories that, in turn, lend meaning to these places. Not only mine, but also those of friends. our journeys, our journals.

Chicago Near (1) Cotton Skies
The final leg of our Helsinki trip last July was Boston-Chicago. JetBlue couldn't seat my wife and me together, and I ended up sitting next to the window. Which I don't necessarily prefer, but nevertheless it affords me a stunning view.

Gymnaestrada - Flags
Gymnaestrada flags stand tall by the bus depot, near the Radisson Blu Plaza Hotel, where our daughter and her Troupe mates stayed.

On Wednesday evening, July 15th 2015, it was time for some Soul Mama's Kitchen, before we headed to the Helsinki Olympic Stadium to watch the Midnight Sun Special.

Gymnaestrada - Centre
It was Tuesday afternoon, July 14th 2015, and my wife and I walked a couple of miles to the Messukeskus Helsinki Exhibition and Convention Centre. We arrived at our hotel mid-afternoon, after a long journey from Chicago, and tried to catch our daughter and the troupe at the Centre. But they had already left.

Helsinki - Author
Born Alexis Stenvall (10 October 1834 – 31 December 1872) [Aleksis Kivi] was a Finnish author who wrote the first significant novel in the Finnish language, Seven Brothers (Finnish title: Seitsemän veljestä). Although Kivi was among the very earliest authors of prose and lyrics in Finnish language, he is still considered one of the greatest of them all.Reference: Aleksis Kivi

Helsinki - Mannerheimvägen
The rugged column: its paint peeling, the remnants of a bar bolted to it, the lengthy street name. Just a stone's throw to the right is our hotel at Mannerheimvägen 50, 00260 Helsingfors, Finland.

Helsinki - Suomi
I thought Suomi was a city in Finland. But a nearby shopkeeper said it was the Finnish word for Finland.
